Saint-Vallier Street in Montreal

This renovation project consists of connecting one of the two upstairs rental units to the main floor unit. Our crews replaced the existing bearing wall to create an open area with a solid wood beam and exposed columns. The new staircase made of wood and ornamental iron railings now connects the family room to the upstairs.

The challenge of this project was mainly a structural one in order to link the two floors. Habitation Plani-conseil worked hand in hand with its engineering partner to find efficient and aesthetic solutions in the design of the open air as well as in the construction of the mortise staircase composed of 2 structural stringers.
